‘Buxus’: box - the ancient Latin name for this plant; ‘microphylla’: small leaves; ‘sempervirens’: evergreen. This slow growing shrub is used for formal or informal hedging, topiary, screen planting and understorey planting. It is slow growing and will establish in 3 to 5 years and may be used in containers.

Soil - Well drained fertile sandy to light clay with reliable moisture.
Containers - Good in pots, tubs & troughs.
Aspect - Full sun to semi shade & is frost tolerant.
Climate - Cool to cool temperate.
Flowers & Fruit
Flowers occur in upper leaf axil during spring and the male flowers cluster around the females.
The fruit is a globular capsule containing six black seeds. It is small and not normally seen and reproduces vegetatively.

'Marginata' Golden Box
The leaves have a yellow margin and it is slow growing.
'Argenteo' Silver Box Variegata
The leaves have a white margin and it is slow growing.
'Suffruticosa' Dutch Box or Edging Box
This plant has a very compact habit and a slow growth rate. The leaves have a notched apex and are shorter and broader.
