The Nellie Kelly Raspberry has been developed specifically to be free of the disease problems affecting many other raspberry varieties. This delightful, easy to grow plant can live up to 30 years, producing sweet tasting raspberries rich in vitamin C during summer and autumn months. Raspberries are deciduous, suckering shrubs with thorny canes that grow up to 2.5m and require staking. Fruit forms on canes grown in the previous season and canes that have already produced fruit will soon weaken and should be cut off at the base. Raspberry bushes thrive in cool temperate zones and like rich, well-drained soil that is acidic to neutral. They prefer a sunny spot but need to be protected from hot and drying winds. For best results, feed your Nellie Kelly Raspberry with an organic fertiliser such as blood and bone, aged chicken manure or cow manure mixed with compost.
